Wound Healing Center
Welcome
Our staff is a unique team of experienced doctors, nurses and therapists whose combined knowledge creates a multi-disciplinary approach to wound management. We are dedicated to caring for people with wounds that have resisted traditional means of healing. We provide a comprehensive outpatient program with state-of-the-art wound treatment.
Partners in Healing
Making the choice is the first important step in your treatment program. The center only treats wounds, so you will continue to consult your regular doctor for additional medical care. We will inform your doctor about your treatment program and the progress you are making. We are a group of specialists dedicated to solving a specific problem — the healing of your wound. Together with you and your doctor, we offer positive alternatives for wounds that are difficult to heal. In most cases our result is total healing.
Your First Visit
Usually your primary care physician makes the referral, however, you can refer yourself to the center. Before beginning treatment, the doctors, nurses and therapists of the wound healing center will evaluate your wound and review your medical history and general health. You may be asked to undergo special tests to provide us with important information about your blood flow, tissue oxygenation and whether or not infection is complicating the healing process. What to bring for an easier registration:
- A list of current medications and any known allergies
- Previous medical records including reports, X-rays, etc. (if available)
- Any insurance forms or cards
Your Treatment Progress
Once your comprehensive evaluation is completed, our wound healing team will develop a treatment program based on your special needs. Your program will involve regular visits, as necessary or as needed, to the center to provide treatment, follow your progress or make necessary changes in your treatment program. You also will be instructed in home wound care, dressing changes, and ways to protect yourself from further injury. For some patients who require additional special treatment, hyperbaric oxygen therapy is available.>
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy uses 100 percent oxygen breathed at higher than normal pressures to enhance healing in problem wounds. Greater amounts of oxygen entering the body promote blood vessel formation, increased oxygen flow to damaged tissue, reduced infection, increased healing of wounds, reduced swelling, and preservation of tissue. This treatment is not painful and there are very few side effects. However, most wound care does not involve hyperbaric treatment. Only 15 percent of patients need this kind of treatment for wound healing. Learn more about hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
You Are the Key in Your Treatment Program
Much of the success of your wound treatment depends on your level of commitment and participation. As an active member of your wound management team, you will need to follow directions carefully, watch your progress closely and keep your appointments.
Remember, Good Samaritan's Wound Healing Center staff is available to answer any questions concerning your treatment program. The center has established an impressive record of healing wounds that others thought hopeless, including many that might have required amputation. Our carefully researched methods allow patients to receive state-of-the-art treatment of wounds that have resisted healing despite months, or even years, of conventional treatment.
