Nursing
A Message from Shirley A. Roth, RN, Chief Nursing Officer
Our journey toward nursing excellence requires a commitment to continually change ourselves, stay flexible, adaptable, and influence improvements in our practice and our environment. To achieve our Vision "To be trusted nurses, caring for patients and others, while advancing practice" requires my commitment to you to design and support an empowering nursing organizational structure that includes high levels of ownership and produces the highest quality outcomes based on evidence.
Our success will depend on the development of an outcome driven, time sensitive action plan to achieve exemplary professional practice. Keys to the success of our plan will include further development of our shared governance concept, clarification of our nursing model of care, encouraging advanced education and certification and contributing to the body of nursing research.
Shared governance requires nurses to be engaged in a higher level of interaction, communication, expression and most importantly in decisions that affect their practice. In order to revise and expand our current shared governance model, we must develop a hard-wired infrastructure that assures council members are provided with the time and resources to attend meetings and complete projects.
Our journey is really all about advancing our practice. In order to accomplish this nurses at all levels, in all settings must assume the role of transformational leaders. We must all be respectful, trusting and sharing our vision and sense of belonging. I welcome, encourage, and challenge you to individually, and as a department, translate our vision into action and join me on this journey.
Sincerely,
 Shirley A. Roth, RN
